Obituary for Frances Grogan Leonard Tarrant

FRANCES GROGAN LEONARD TARRANT

Frances Grogan Leonard Tarrant, 98, passed peacefully in her sleep on February 10, 2017. Her long, blessed life was a testament to both her own indomitable spirit and to the reciprocal friendship, respect, love and care she received from those closest and dearest, who knew her spirit well.

A true artist at heart, she was an accomplished, award-winning, life-long painter who deeply appreciated and contributed to the beauty in everything around her.

Perhaps most of all, though, Frances was in every way the quintessential Southern Lady of a certain generation: gracious and generous; accomplished and attentive; slyly humorous and quietly observant; delicately decorating bone china and porcelain figurines during peacetime, while riveting metal airplane plates during the war effort; a pioneering feminine spirit who managed to maintain more than one male-dominated career and household; and a lady just as likely to be found working as the member of a pit crew at the Daytona 500 (true story) as she was to be found gardening, or flower-arranging, or serving as the Vice President in the Fine Arts Club of Marietta.

She was a fiercely independent family woman with the delicate blush of a rose in her cheeks - and steely determination in her backbone. A devoted and loyal daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, friend and neighbor, she never failed to make everyone around her feel worthy, loved, appreciated and inspired - and she was deeply loved and admired in return.

Arrangements are entrusted to the staff of Roper Funeral Home & Crematory in Jasper, Georgia.
