She was born August 29, 1928 in Jasper, Georgia. Ellen is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sally and Melvin Childers of Talking Rock; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Brenda Matthews of Canton; raised by Ms. Matthews, Susie Chastain of Ranger, Eddie Lee Wilkey of Blue Ridge; special niece, Shelty Moss of Talking Rock; granddaughter, Amanda Childers of Talking Rock, grandson, Matthew Childers of Talking Rock; great-grandsons, Payton and Westin. She was preceded in death by her parents, McKinley and Millie Matthews; seven sisters; three brothers; and one nephew, Sammy Wilkey. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 22, 2022 in the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with Ron Matthews officating. Interment will follow in the Hinton Cemetery. Pall Bearers will be Chris Cheshire, Marty Moss, Brandon Moss, Blake Moss, Jonathan Buchanan, and Bud Payne. Honorary Pall Bearer will be Dustin Kell. The family will be receiving friends at Roper Funeral Home, Friday, January 21, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Saturday, January 22, 2022 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Arrangements are entrusted to the Staff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory.
