Barbara Jo Hancock Phipps 92, of Jasper, Georgia, was born August 3, 1934, in Paoli, Indiana, and passed away peacefully at home on October 20, 2026. She is once again beside the love of her life, James "Jim" Phipps. Since his passing in May, not a moment went by where her heart did not ache for Jim. They shared a steady, lifelong bond through 71 years of marriage, and her family takes comfort in knowing they are together once again.
She was not only beautiful but very intelligent attending both Indiana University and Florida Atlantic University where she received her degree in Education and taught elementary school in Coral Springs, Florida for many years.
To her children she was "Mom" and later in life, she was simply "Nana". A loving, caring, kind, and gentle being. She welcomed everyone with open arms and had a way of making people feel safe and at home. A Patriot who loved her Country, she protected her family fiercely and loved them with her whole heart. She was steady, soft-spoken, and strong in all the quiet ways that matter. She was a wonderful Mom - patient, warm, and always there when you needed her.
Barbara was preceded in death by her loving husband James Junior Phipps; parents Ralph and Emma Hancock; siblings Margie Hancock, Edna Hancock, Charles Hancock, Judy Hancock, Donald Hancock; and grandson Joshua Smith.
She is survived by her youngest sister Wanda Hancock Cooper; children Lesli Creel (Chip), Ric Phipps (Tracy), and Tori Phipps; grandchildren Chris Lazarek (Allyson), Chelsea Friez (Drew), Kyle Friez (Brett), Kelly Kramm (Clay), and Matthew Phipps; great-grandchildren Carter Lazarek, Adalynn Lazarek, Emma Kramm, Brady Kramm, and Riley Friez. She also leaves behind her extended family: Logan Creel (Kelsey, Chappell), Lauren Sheffield (Trey, Walton, Cooper) and many nieces and nephews.
Roper Funeral Home in Jasper, Georgia, is handling arrangements and the family will hold a private ceremony at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to the charity of your choice in her honor.
Barbara leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and gentleness - the kind of legacy that lives on in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was loved deeply and will be dearly missed.
