As a 1952 graduate of Valdosta State University, Betty began her teaching career in Waycross, Georgia; continued in Valdosta, Georgia and ended her career in Fulton County Schools in Roswell, Georgia. She married Jack Lawrence of Adel, Georgia on July 25, 1953. Betty and Jack retired to Destin, Florida during the mid 1990's. Betty died on May 16, 2022 at the Retreat in Jasper. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, of 60 years, Jack Lawrence; parents; brothers, Cecil W. Collins, James T. Collins, Robert Neal Collins; and sister, Hazel Collins Clary. She is survived by her three sons and their spouses, Jack Lawrence Jr. and his wife Rhonda of Chatsworth, Bill Lawrence and his wife Kim of Jasper, and Joe R. Lawrence and his wife Rhonda of Ball Ground; six grandchildren, Hali Lawrence, Sarah and husband Noah Brunk, Taylor Lawrence, Jenna Lawrence, Walker Lawrence, Will Lawrence; two great-grandchildren, Shepherd and Ellis; one sister, Catherine Fortenberry of Ault, Colorado. Betty will be remembered as loving God, family and friends and for her beautiful smile Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 19, 2022 in the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with Reverend Hugh Deloach and Brother Andy Collins officiating. Interment will follow in the Choestoe Baptist Church Cemetery in Blairsville, Georgia. The family will be receiving friends at Roper Funeral Home, Wednesday, May 18, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Betty's memory to the Choestoe Baptist Church Cemetery Fund at 46 Choestoe Church Road; Blairsville, Georgia 30512.
