Betty Louise VanValkenburgh (nee Dove) was born at Fort Smith, Arkansas on February 1, 1933. She graduated from Russleville High School. Betty was preceded in death by her husband of many years, Wayne VanValkenburgh.
She is survived by her son Steven W. VanValkenburgh and wife Kathy T Van Valkenburgh (nee Thady), daughter Kathryn G Thompson and her husband Dale Bender, son Blake A. VanValkenburgh and wife Katey Van Valkenburgh (nee Collins), and six grandchildren, William VanValkenburgh, Steven M. VanValkenburgh, Alex Thompson, Kyle Thompson, Lauren VanValkenburgh, Anna VanValkenburgh; and a great-granddaughter Eliza Johnson.
Her greatest joy in life was raising her three children and being Grandma to her many grandchildren. She had a keen interest in flower gardening and loved watching the wildlife around the beautiful home she and her late husband built in Jasper, Georgia. She later earned a pilot's license, the first female resident of Pickens County to do so, at the age of 56; one of the greatest challenges of her life. Betty and her late husband and family enjoyed travel and took many trips overseas exploring the world. She also enjoyed RV camping with her family at her beloved Glacier National Park, her favorite place on earth. She was a faithful member of Jasper United Methodist Church and will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.
Services will be held Friday, August 8 at 1:00 p.m. at Jasper United Methodist Church with Greg Meadows officiating.
The family will be receiving friends at Roper Funeral Home, Thursday, August 7, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Staff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory.
