Carl Boyd Jones Jr., age 84, of Big Canoe, passed away Thursday, June 20, 2024 at Parkside Nursing Home in Ellijay, Georgia. He was born February 6, 1940 in Jacksonville, Florida.
Carl Boyd Jones began his professional career as the State Secretary for American Heritage Insurance in Jacksonville, Florida. He then became Sales Director for Colonial Life and Accident concentrating on state business in Florida. He later became the Regional Director for the State of Georgia. He received numerous awards throughout his professional career before retiring, in his mid-fifties, to beautiful Big Canoe in the mountains of north Georgia. He was an avid golfer, card player, boater, and a master chef on the barbecue grill. There was nothing more important to Carl than his family and friends. He had an incredible sense of humor and quick wit and will forever be known for his numerous and highly quoted one-liners, such as, "The situation is always the boss." He loved people and unconditionally loved his family. He always made a special effort to attend family events and was the driving force behind the periodic sibling and spouse's weekend, which in spite of busy schedules, happened because of Carl's desire to be with his family. He loved being called big brother which always made him smile, but took exception to being referred to as the patriarch of the family, because he said it made him sound mean. Carl was truly the patriarch, but was anything but mean. Whether by phone or in person, he always had a kind word to say and made you feel welcomed and special. Although he was an accomplished professional in the insurance industry, Carl's favorite role was husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He was larger than life and had a heart as big and loving to match.
Carl is survived by his wife, Mary Jones of Big Canoe; daughter and son-in-law, Sindi and Frank Giordano of North Carolina; granddaughter, Andrea Giordano and Dylan Slizewski; granddaughter, Melissa Giordano and Daeveone Stuart; great-grandchildren, Arianna Lee, Milani Stuart; son and daughter-in-law, Rob and Gouping Jones of Ball Ground; daughter and son-in-law, Dana and Chris Vaughn of Greensboro, North Carolina; grandchildren, Simeon Vaughn, Caldwell Vaughn; daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Matthew Craft of Kannapolis, North Carolina; grandchildren, Kaila and Jacob Wilson; sisters and brothers-in-law, Susie and Don Randolph of Cartersville, Margie and Patrick Murray of Winter Springs, Florida; and brother and sister-in-law, Tim and Pam Colton of Auburndale, Florida.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Big Canoe Chapel on August 10, 2024 at 11:00am with David Apple and Patrick Murray officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Big Canoe Chapel or Big Canoe Animal Rescue.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Staff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory.
