Monday was also he and his wife's, Vickie, 46th Wedding Anniversary. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bud and Sybil Smith; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Hoyt and Mary Baker. Danny is survived by his wife of 46 years, Vickie Baker Smith; son and daughter-in-law, Craig and Haley Smith; granddaughter, Hattie Mae Smith; brothers and sisters-in-law, Roger and Pam Smith, Jerry and Teresa Smith, Larry Smith; sister and brother-in-law, Elaine and Scott Nichols; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Randy and Hanna Baker, Danny and Pam Baker. Several nieces, nephews, and other family members also survive. Danny loved to play his guitar and sing. For many years, he played music on Saturday night with his brother, Roger, and some very special friends. Danny was a member at Four Mile Baptist Church and cherished his memories of singing with the Four Mile Creek singing group. His other passion was making sure he kept his lawn looking beautiful. He spent many hours cutting grass on his two acres at his home in Canton. Riding the lawnmower was his passion and he always made sure to maintain his lawn equipment so it would last for years to come. And if he wasn't cutting grass, he was riding his golf cart around the yard with his beloved dog, Whiskey Rein! As his daughter-in-law, Haley, said he made the best egg and grilled cheese sandwiches. His other specialty was making sweet potatoes for Thanksgiving. A lot of butter and love went into making that dish! Funeral Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 9, 2025 in the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with Reverend Danny Baker and Reverend Curtis Roland officiating. Interment will follow at Four Mile Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Roper Funeral Home and Crematory on Wednesday, May 7, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.; Thursday, May 8, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.; and Friday, May 9, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Arrangements are entrusted to the Staff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory.
