Obituary

Roper Funeral Home and Crematory 206 Holly St Jasper, GA 30143 (706) 253-7500 (706) 253-0040 www.roperfuneralhome.com Dolly Mae "Nanny Dolly" Hawkins, age 86, of Jasper, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at her home. She was born June 13, 1938 to John and Rosalee Brown in Atlanta, Georgia. Dolly is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and David Martin of Jasper; daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Mike Rohner of Canton; daughter, Robin Sisson of Blue Ridge; daughter-in-law, Louise Hawkins of Canton; grandchildren, Telinda Butler, Casey Worley, Stephanie Griffin, Melissa Rohner, Sabrina Turney, Miles Phillips, Joey Sisson, Rebecca Jones, Jena West, Stephen Hawkins, David Martin, Jr., Susan Sanchez, Lisa Riley, Hannah Mullins, Phillip Mullins. A host of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and other relatives also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Jerry Hawkins, Jr.; and son-in-law, Jimmy Mullins. "Nanny Dolly" was born into the arms of her grandparents with small means. Life did not offer her many opportunities to gain monetary wealth. However, she was blessed with tenacity, determination, independence, loyalty, and perseverance. She fought her young adult years to protect her four children and raise them alone. Along with working at Mead Paper Company for 38 years, some of her fondest times were working with the Pickens County Judicial System as a Bailiff. She befriended so many awesome people while working this job Dolly never met a stranger. Her large personality was known by anyone around her. If you knew her, you knew she was feisty, sassy, spunky and loved fiercely. She would let you know in a heartbeat how she felt about everything from the weather to politics. Even though death is inevitable, Dolly fought it to the end. She wanted to talk to one more person, feed her dogs one more time, play one more game of solitaire on her phone or see one more spring. Her death was about as timely as it could have been because she hated cold weather. She never got over the depression and angst of losing her only son, but Jerry was waiting for her with open arms at the pearly gates. She will be sorely missed by those she leaves behind. Being a member of County Line Baptist Church, a Celebration of Life will be held at the church in the Fellowship Hall on November 16, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. Arrangements are entrusted to the Staff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory.
