Dorothy Jeannette "Jenny" Bradley Spencer, born September 23, 1931, in Birmingham, Alabama, passed away on December 23, 2025. She was born to Herbert and Hazel Bradley. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Sylvia, brother-in-law Gene Parker, and her nephew Gene Jr. ("Tyke").
Jenny is survived by her devoted husband, Fred (affectionately known as "Fre-ed" - if you know, you know); her children, Brad and Beth; and her grandchildren, Kelli, Kirk, Taylor, Kory, Tiffany, Kara, and Kylie. She was also blessed with great-grandchildren, Elija, Ellie, Justin, Ethan, Aspen, Maverick, Krishna, Niall, and Kiran (who arrived just three days before her passing).
Jenny grew up in a home her father built in South Birmingham, surrounded by a large, loving extended family. Her childhood was filled with aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear "cousin-friends." She graduated from West End High School in 1949 and went on to work for a dental clinic before joining Mack Truck.
Jenny was introduced to Fred by his dear friend Charlie Sides (Dad always teased that he would never forgive Charlie), and they were married on June 17, 1954 in a double wedding with her sister, Sylvia, and her fiancé, Gene Parker. At the time of her passing, Jenny and Fred had been married for an extraordinary 71½ years.
She loved being a homemaker and took great joy in caring for "Fre-ed" and the kids. Jenny was known for her delicious desserts, and her southern specialties. She enjoyed activities such as the local bowling league, tennis teams, as well as dining and dancing. She adored her cats, loved to shop, and treasured every moment spent with family. Her happiest place was always by her husband's side. Jenny had a strong Christian faith.
Throughout her life, Jenny moved often due to Fred's corporate commitments. She lived in Birmingham; several locations around Atlanta; Longmeadow, Massachusetts; Simsbury, Connecticut; Dunwoody and Rome, Georgia (spending 35 years in Rome); and, finally, Ellijay, Georgia, where they made their home in 2013.
Once her children were older, Jenny returned to work - first in the Emergency Room at Northside Hospital in Atlanta, and later at Rome (Scripps Howard) Cable.
At this time, Fred has requested that there not be a formal service. However, we would be grateful if anyone with a sweet or meaningful memory of Jenny would share it, so that Fred may know how loved she truly was. You may also choose to honor her memory with an act of kindness toward someone in need - something we believe would make her smile. We would love to hear about anything you feel moved to share.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Staff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory.
