Elaine was the daughter of the late Reverend Howard Bruce and Alice Poole Bruce. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Hugh Hitt; daughter Linda Hitt; granddaughter, Deanna Dorsey; sisters, Ruth Ray and Mable Bryant; brother, Russell Bruce; and sons-in-law, Gene Roland and Bill Starkey. Elaine is survived by daughters, Shelby Starkey and Patricia Roland of Jasper; son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Cheryl Hitt of Waleska. Also surviving are granddaughters, Shannon (Ron) Thompson, Lana (David) Bruce, Stacy (Jamie) Bryan, Jill ( Tracy) Abercrombie, and grandsons, Jeff (Carrie) Roland and Josh Hitt. She also had nine great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren with an eighth one on the way. Funeral will be held Friday, November 22, 2024 at 3:00 pm at the chapel at Roper Funeral Home with Reverend Grant Wade and Reverend Nathan Smith officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until the funeral hour on the day of the funeral. Pallbearers will be Jeff Roland, Ron Thompson, David Bruce, Jamie Bryan, Tracy Abercrombie, and Jake Fields. Elaine is the last of the original charter members of Free Hope Baptist Church in Tate. She was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother who was loved dearly. Flowers or donations to Free Hope Baptist Church are accepted. Arrangements are entrusted to the Staff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory.
