Harold Kimsey "Ken" Wood, Jr., age 59, of Jasper, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2025 at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital in Cumming, Georgia. Ken was born on July 6, 1966 to Kimsey and Barbara Wood. Ken grew up in Waleska and attended grade school in Cherokee County before later following his fathers move to the Pickens County School District where Ken later graduated from Pickens High School. Ken enjoyed hunting, fishing, NASCAR, Georgia Bulldogs, and sitting on the porch passing time. Ken drove a truck for many years until suffering a severe back injury. After overcoming many surgeries, Ken then started his own lawn care business. Ken later worked for the Pickens County School System. Ken is survived by his loving mother, Barbara Prather Wood of Jasper; sister and brother-in-law, Jan and Jody Dowda of Jasper; niece and nephew, Kimsey and Connor Head and Joe Dowda III of Jasper; aunt, Ethelene Nix of Monroe; cousins, Mike Mosley of Jasper, and Ted and Sandy Thacker of Franklin, Tennessee. Several friends also survive. Ken was preceded in death by his father, Harold Kimsey Wood; grandparents, Clyde and Jewel Wood, Edd and Irene Prather; aunts, Carolyn O'Neal, Velma (Jay) Mosley, Dot Wheeler; uncles, Edward (Gene) Prather, Gordon Wood; and cousin, George Wheeler. Ken was a kind-hearted and fun loving person in spite of the chronic pain he faced for several years. He was a great friend to all he met and never failed to be there for his family. Ken was loved dearly by his family and friends. He will be greatly missed. The Funeral Service will be held Sunday, July 20, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with Reverend Larry Johnson officiating. Pallbearers will be Phillip Landrum III, Travis Wilson, Connor Head, Jason Richards, Rick Grant, Jeff Lewis, and Bill Cain. Honorary Pallbearers will be Burt Fronebarger, Mike Mosley, Ronnie Weaver, Bobby Joe Williams, Tony Aaron, Tommy Massey, Bobby Mullinax, Bob O'Neal, and Justin Dean. Interment will follow in the Jasper City Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends on Sunday, July 20, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jasper City Cemetery in care of Kevin Roper. Arrangements are entrusted to the Staff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory.
