An Angel of Death came to call James Emory Bridges home peacefully on October 22, 2024 after an extended illness and other complications. Mr. James E. (Lightnin) Bridges is no longer hurting. He is free of all misery, hurt and pain. Known for his support for those he loved, James was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
James was born July 14, 1952 to the late James Henry Bridges and Emily Carolyn Green Bridges in Tate, Georgia. He was baptized at an early age and was a member at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Tate, Georgia.
He was employed by General Motors Corporation for many years and finished his career as a handyman. One of the many great things about James, he would take things apart just to put it back together with a "Twist."
James had a passion for sharing his knowledge and wisdom with his grandchildren and loved the simple things of life. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, hanging out with friends and family, and loved most of all "papas babies" (his grandkids & great-grand kids.) James leaves us to cherish his memories and carry on his legacy.
James was married to Jeri-Ann Pickens Bridges of Canton and has four beautiful children; daughters, Matika L. Bridges, Holly M. Bridges; sons, Jason G. Bridges (Joelle) and Emory Bridges; grandchildren, Montavious and Courtney Bridges, JJ Bridges, Isaac Cone, LaTrell Bridges, Mykel Bridges (deceased), Carter Bridges, Zieandrea Bridges, Shantel Durham, Liyah Durham, Halle Bridges, Kaylah Callahan, Lily Bridges; great-grandchildren, Zayden Bridges, Malaysia Bridges, Kamila Bridges, Armani; sisters, Janice B. Williams of Jasper, Jerald L. Bridges (deceased); brothers, Jeffery Bridges (Debrah) of Washington, DC, Joey M. Russell (deceased); niece, Ashely Bridges. A host of aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives and many cherished friends also survive.
We will miss you with all our hearts Papa! May you rest in peace!
A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 9, 2024 at Mt. Calvary Church in Tate.
