She was born March 18, 1948 to Adger Bernice and Lona Elizabeth Morris in Anniston, Alabama. Jean moved to Jasper to become the UGA Forestry Extension Service Agent for Pickens County where she worked with many residents and the youth of the county. Later she took a job with the Pickens County School System as a Home Economics teacher. She will be remembered by many through her work in the schools and her timeless devotion to the youth in the 4-H Program. Jean is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Destini and Matt Shope; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Rhonda Chastain; grandchildren, Mallory and Michael Young, Chris Logan, Ryan and Taylor-Anne Chastain, Brooklyn and Kyser Hamilton, Jadyn and Brandon Wilson, and Tyler Lohman; great-grandchildren, Hadley and Harper Hamilton and Jacob and Keegan Wilson; brothers and sister-in-law, Henry Morris, Donald Ray and Annette Morris; sister and brother-in-law, Diann and Donnie Holt; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jerry and Kaye Chastain, Charlie and Kathy Chastain, JoAnne and Charles Tomblin. A host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive. Jean was preceded in death by her husband, John Chastain; and parents, Bernice and Lona Morris. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, August 27, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with Terry Burress officiating. The interment will follow at Sunrise Memorial Gardens. The family will be receiving friends at Roper Funeral Home on Monday, August 26, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral hour. Arrangements are entrusted to the Staff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory.
