Jeannie Scott Walker, age 95, passed away peacefully at her home. Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, on February 16, 1929, Jeannie was a devoted lifelong Presbyterian whose faith and commitment to others defined her life.
In her younger years, Jeannie and her husband, James Walker, worked with the Life Boys in Edinburgh, an experience that shaped her lifelong dedication to service and community. She also had a successful career in banking before emigrating to Canada in the early 1950s. Shortly thereafter, she and James moved to the United States, where she would live for the remainder of her life.
Throughout her life, Jeannie volunteered for various organizations, always finding joy in helping others and contributing to the well-being of her community. But it was her family that brought her the greatest joy. Jeannie cherished her role as a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and her love for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren was boundless.
Jeannie's kindness, warmth, and selfless devotion to her family and community will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love and service will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Jeannie is survived by her daughter, Sheila Urquhart of Jasper; son and daughter-in-law, Colin and Brenda Walker of Hilton, New York; daughter and son-in-law, Heather and Scott Childs of Clermont, Florida; son, Ian Walker of Williamson, New York; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, James Walker.
A service to celebrate Jeannie's life will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Staff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory.
