His family lived in Belzoni, Mississippi where he had a wonderful childhood and made many treasured, lifelong friends. He grew up alongside his two beloved older brothers, Leonard and Charlie. Jerry was a well rounded young man who played in the marching band and was a good athlete. He attended Belzoni High School and was captain of the football team his senior year. He loved his Alma Mater of Mississippi State and could be found wearing a MSU Bulldog sweatshirt on any given day. He was a dedicated member of Roswell Presbyterian Church and served on the session and as treasurer. He and Jill had some very special friends at Roswell Presbyterian with whom they took annual trips for many years. When they relocated to Jasper, Georgia. They joined Jasper United Methodist and enjoyed their wonderful Sunday school class and volunteering in various ministries.
