Judson Wilder Jr., M.D., was a devoted physician, dermatologist, military veteran, and conservation supporter whose career reflected a lifelong commitment to education, medicine, and an avid reader and artist.
A native of Thomasville, Georgia, Dr. Wilder graduated from Thomasville High School in 1958 as salutatorian of his class. He continued his education at Emory University College of Arts and Sciences in Atlanta, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Biology in 1962. He then attended Emory University School of Medicine, where he received his medical degree in 1966.
Following medical school, Dr. Wilder completed a rotating internship at University Hospital of Jacksonville in Florida from 1966 to 1967. He subsequently served his country as a general medical officer in the United States Air Force from 1967 to 1969, with assignments at Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines and Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina.
After completing his military service, Dr. Wilder pursued specialty training in dermatology at North Carolina Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. He completed his residency there in 1972.
Dr. Wilder established a solo dermatology practice in Jonesboro, Georgia, where he cared for patients for many years. He also served the community through his work with Southern Regional Medical Center in Riverdale from 1972 to 1987.
