She was born on June 1, 1935 in Jasper to John Cyrus Darnell, Sr. and Nacie Simmons Darnell. June was in nursing for 41 years, working in hospitals in Florida, Virginia, Texas, Nevada, Alaska and Georgia. She was the Director of Nursing at Pickens General Nursing Home for 13 years before going to work at the Pickens County Health Department. June is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Beverly and Gary Duncan of Jasper, Julie McCleskey of Jasper, Nacie Bennett of Ball Ground; grandchildren, Brent Duncan of Woodstock, Tessa Duncan of Cumming, Leo McCleskey of Jasper, Zane Bennett of Ball Ground, Kaleigh Bennett of Ball Ground; and sister, Jane Keel of Florida. June was preceded in death by her husband, Bob O'Shields; 3 brothers and 2 sisters. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, July 19, 2024 in the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with Rev. Nathan Smith. Interment will follow at Sunrise Memorial Gardens. The family will be receiving friends at Roper Funeral Home on Thursday, July 18, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral hour.
