Kathleen Anne Hagarty White, 74, died peacefully surrounded by her family at her home in Big Canoe. Growing up in Lafayette, California, she was known by her easy smile and her love of music, the outdoors, hiking, water skiing, singing, reading, bible study and playing Canasta.
Kathleen is survived by her husband of 50 years, Dennis, who stood by her faithfully during her 4 year battle with cancer; her daughters, Jessica Michelle Taylor (David) and Lauren Denae Belcher (Shawn), her three granddaughters, Katie Elizabeth, Charlie Grace, and Quinn Denae; her heart adopted daughter, Shannon Qu Hongee (Reggie) and two granddaughters, Ysabel and Ryah; her sister-in-law, Janet White and her sons, Jeff and Scott; her nephews, Craig, Dave and Stan Ball; and cousins, Tom, Mark, and Mary Pat Hagarty.
She was a member of the second graduating class of Campolindo High School in Moraga, California; received her BA in Music with a cello performance emphasis from San Jose State University and her K-12 teaching credential at University of California, Berkeley. She taught middle and high school orchestras and choirs in California and in Cobb (Dodgen M.S. and Palmer M.S.) and Fulton (Crabapple M.S.) Counties, Georgia for over 40 years. She had a private cello studio in Roswell for a number of years as well. She co-founded Sophisticated Strings Quartet, which played weddings and professional events in the greater Atlanta area. Kathleen was the first music teacher at Dominion Christian High School in Kennesaw and took the choir to a competition in Verona, Italy. She also founded the choir and children's ballet programs at Fellowship Bible Church and upon moving to Big Canoe she led Sharptop Strings for several years. As a member of Johnson Ferry Baptist Church in Marietta, she played in the orchestra and went on mission trips to Asheville, NC, Italy, Sicily, Thailand, the San Francisco Bay Area and Russia.
Her greatest love was for her Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ. She was blessed to be involved in the Navigator 2:7 study with her husband, which they led for a number of years, Bible Study Fellowship as a children's and discussion leader and the Women's Ministry Coordinator and Bible Study Teacher at Foothills Community Church where she and Dennis are members. She loved her church family and frequently attended bible study at Trinity Church where she met many wonderful friends. She also loved her special friends in Big Canoe and prayed for them daily.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday August 3, 2024 at Trinity Church, 2685 Steve Tate Road, Marble Hill, Georgia 30148, with Rev. Charlie Parish officiating. A reception will follow the service.
