She was born March 4, 1947 to James and Ellen Tatum in Canton, Georgia. Martha was a member of County Line Baptist Church. Martha is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Teri Gibson of Marietta; daughter, Amy Gibson of Jasper; grandchildren, Ellie, Brady, Evan, and Tatum. She was preceded in death by parents, Reverend James Tatum and Ellen Tatum; brothers, Eddie Tatum and Reverend Gene Tatum. Martha blessed countless folks with her singing, whether it was with a quartet, in church or at a family's request at a funeral. Many in the Jasper community will likely recall her singing either "Far Away" or "Holy Angels" at a service for a friend or loved one at some point through the years. Martha loved her kids, her grandkids and her wonderful friends that meant so much to her. She was a sensitive soul and loved all things Christmas and angels, but she was also tough as nails, having survived breast cancer and a rare esophagus disorder that made it very hard for her to swallow much of her life. More than anything, though, Martha was grateful to Jesus Christ for saving her and sustaining her throughout her life. The family wishes to express special thanks to the caregivers at Manor Lake Assisted Living in East Ellijay, Georgia Mountain Hospice and Northside Cherokee Hospital who gave her such wonderful care as her time was drawing to a close. A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 11, 2024 in the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with Reverend Jess Posey and Reverend Alan Gibson officiating. The family will be receiving friends at Roper Funeral Home, Sunday, March 10, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Monday, March 11, 2024 from 8:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. The family will accept flowers or in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Georgia Mountains Hospice at 70 Caring Way; Jasper, Georgia. Arrangements are entrusted to the Staff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory.
