Obituary

Roper Funeral Home and Crematory 206 Holly St Jasper, GA 30143 (706) 253-7500 (706) 253-0040 www.roperfuneralhome.com Patsy Young Duckett died peacefully on October 8, 2026 at Northside Cherokee Hospital, with family by her side. Born Patsy Irene on February 8, 1952, to the late J.R. Young and Pauline Thomason, Pat lived a complicated, sometimes difficult, and deeply individual life. Tenacious, opinionated, thoughtful, and curious, Pat was always questioning, observing, remembering, and trying to make sense of the world around her. Pat spent much of her life chasing a spirit of happiness. Her journey was not always an easy one, and her life cannot be reduced to simple descriptions or memories. She experienced joy, disappointment, hardship, love, and frustration. She was a collection of contradictions and chapters... some beautiful, some painful, and some that were left unfinished. One constant throughout much of Pat's life was her work. She devoted several decades to the United States Postal Service. In 2005, she retired as Postmaster of the Nelson, Georgia post office. Her years of service were a significant part of her life and were among her greatest accomplishments. She is survived by her daughter, Karla Duckett Weaver; her grandchildren, Tyler Weaver and Alyssa Warfield; her great-grandchildren, Ellie Holaway and Braxton Warfield; and her siblings, Richard and Sally Young and Ann and Jeff Dobson. Per Pat's wishes, a private graveside service will be held. The family asks in lieu of flowers that people make contributions to the Rheumatoid Arthritis Foundation in Pat's memory. The arrangements are entrusted to the staff at Roper Funeral Home and Crematory.
