Obituary

Roper Funeral Home and Crematory 206 Holly St Jasper, GA 30143 (706) 253-7500 (706) 253-0040 www.roperfuneralhome.com Robert Emerson, a devoted patriot, accomplished professional, and beloved family man, passed away peacefully at his home in Big Canoe, leaving behind a legacy of honor, intellect, and quiet strength. He was born June 22, 1942 to Robert and Dorothy Emerson in New York City and raised in Manhasset, where he first made a name for himself as a star basketball player at Manhasset High School. A proud Tar Heel, Robert attended the University of North Carolina, where he cultivated a lifelong passion for learning, competition, and tradition. His deep commitment to service led him to the U.S. Navy, where he served with distinction as a nuclear weapons officer aboard the Enterprise nuclear warship during the Vietnam War. He often reflected on his time on the bridge with pride and a deep sense of duty. Following his military service, Robert continued his career on a global stage, spending five years in Australia as a representative of Marine Midland Bank. His sharp mind, steady demeanor, and natural leadership earned him great respect among colleagues and clients alike. Robert was a man of many passions. A life-long Republican, he was an avid golfer and a voracious reader, never far from a book or a well-folded newspaper. His love of music included the dramatic grandeur of opera, which he enjoyed with both depth and reverence. He lived a life guided by principle, marked by service, and filled with the quiet joys of friendship, family, and reflection. Robert's legacy endures in the lives he touched, the values he upheld, and the stories shared by those who knew him best. He will be deeply missed. Robert is survived by his wife, Norma Niehoff-Emerson of Big Canoe; son and daughter-in-law, Craig and Kristi Emerson of Englewood, Colorado; daughter, Laura Emerson of Darien, Connecticut; grandchildren, Drewes Emerson of Tulane University, Chase Emerson of Englewood, Colorado, Nicholas "Scout" Emerson of Darien, Connecticut; sisters and brothers-in-law, Suzanne Emerson Webster and Richard Webster of Hawaii, Louise and Suheil Kawar of Beirut, Lebanon. Burial will be in the family plot in New Hampshire. Arrangements are entrusted to the Staff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory.
