She was born January 24, 1933 to Joseph Fonzie and Myra Lucretia Cook in Fairmount, Georgia. Shirley was known and loved by many people in Pickens County where she served on the Pickens County Board of Education for several years. Shirley is survived by daughters, Sherry Headrick of Jasper, Liz Patrick of Jasper; daughter and son-in-law, Jackie and Richard Gaddis of Jasper; son David Whitaker of Jasper; sister, Carol Lucretia Cook of Kennesaw; grandchildren, Marty Gaddis, Stacey Thacker, Lori Headrick, Ashley Davis, Joshua Whitaker, Sam Whitaker, Emily Whitaker, John Phares, Adam Phares; great-grandchildren, Abigale Montgomery, Jacob Assad, Trip Davis, Lola Gaddis, Brady Gaddis, Noah Thacker, Charlie Thacker, Malakai Phares, Quigley Whitaker, Isiah Clay, Connie Turner, Titus Turner, and Skylar Johnson. Many other friends and relatives also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Whitaker and son, Jimmy Whitaker. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 p.m., Sunday, September 19, 2021 in the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with Reverend Nathan Smith and Reverend Daryl Bailey officiating. Interment will follow in the Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery in Jasper. The family will be receiving friends at Roper Funeral Home, Saturday, September 18, 2021 from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and Sunday, September 19, 2021 from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Arrangements are entrusted to the Staff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory.
