He was born October 18, 1954 to Joseph and Clara Mae Mathews in Jasper. Stanley is survived by his wife, June Mathews of Dawsonville; daughters and sons-in-law, Kelly Mathews, Darlene and Wayne Cole, Melinda and Alan Hawkins; grandchildren, Dakota Mathews, Brittany Evans, Michael Shaw, Jessica and Jeremiah Wright, Jason and Carrie Cole, Brett and Lauren Hawkins, Leah and Chris Harper, Joseph and Phoebe Hawkins, Reid and Leila Hawkins, Kristin and Garrett Burch, Preston Hawkins, Allison Hawkins, Melissa Hawkins; great-grandchildren, Jacob Wright, Nate Hawkins, Evelyn Hawkins, Jonah Wright, Hadley Cole, Emma Hawkins, Alaina Harper, Weston Cole, Audrey Harper, Wyatt Hawkins, John Wright, Brielle Hawkins, Everly Harper, Leland Hawkins, Ayla Burch, Everett Hawkins; sisters, Carol Mathews, Wanda Walls, and Dinah Densmore. Several nieces, nephews, and other family members also survive. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph "Toad" Mathews; mother, Clara Mae Elston; and sister, Joan Garsell. A Graveside Service will be held 2:00 p.m., Monday, May 5, 2025 at Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery with Chris White officiating. Pallbearers will be Mike Milner, Jason Cole, Brett Hawkins, Joseph Hawkins, Reid Hawkins, and Preston Hawkins. The family will be receiving friends at Roper Funeral Home, Monday, May 5, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. The family will accept flowers or donations in his honor may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital; 501 St. Jude PL; Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
