Varan was born in Pickens County, Georgia. At an early age, her family moved to East Point, Georgia where she spent her early childhood surrounded by other relatives who had also migrated there. Sometime after her marriage, she moved to Deland, Florida where she raised her four children and where she made many friends, some of whom were still close until the day she died. In her last years, she moved to Greenville, Tennessee to be near her daughter and her family. But her heart must have always been in her Pickens County roots, where summer visits were so fondly remembered. Her last years were spent in Jasper, Georgia to be near her twin sister, Velma. Varan will be remembered by her family and her many friends as a kind and generous person endowed by the strength her heritage bestowed upon her. Her family was the most important thing to her, and she took each opportunity that came along to celebrate with them. Varan is survived by her children, Benjamin and Robin Sheats of Clarksville, Mark and Tracy Sheats of Statham, Stephen Sheats of Jasper, Susan Vermillion of Greenville, Tennessee; grandchildren, Spencer Sheats, Ross Sheats, Mason Sheats, Reed Sheats, Riley Vermillion, Macy Vermillion; brother and sister-in-law, John and Pam Mullinax of Canton; sister, Velma Thomason of Jasper. Several nieces and nephews also survive. A Graveside Service will be held 2:00 p.m., Sunday, January 23, 2022 at County Line Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend Jesse Posey officiating. The family will be receiving friends at Roper Funeral Home, Sunday, January 23, 2022 from 12:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. Arrangements are entrusted to the Staff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory.
