A devoted volunteer and respected leader, Ward was proud to serve as Vice President of the Auxiliary at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital, where he dedicated countless hours to helping others and supporting hospital staff and patients. Ward was an avid fan and a proud supporter of the University of North Carolina's sports. Whether cheering on his favorite team or sharing stories, his enthusiasm was contagious. Ward is survived by his wife, Beverly Smith of Jasper; son and daughter-in-law, Ryan and Emily Smith of Valdosta; son and daughter-in-law, Collier and Erica Smith of Johns Creek; grandchildren, Cara and Charlotte. He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Margaret Smith. The family will be receiving friends at Roper Funeral Home, Thursday, June 19, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Arrangements are entrusted to the Staff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory.
