William Doyle Chester, a man of deep faith, family devotion, and a love for the great outdoors, passed away peacefully at the age of 82 on November 25, 2024 at WellStar Cobb Hospital in Austell. Born in Ellijay, Georgia, Doyle spent his life enjoying the simple pleasures of nature and the warmth of his loved ones.
A passionate outdoors man, Doyle was an avid hunter, deep-sea fisherman, and enthusiast of boating and camping. He cherished the time spent with family and friends, whether on the water or around a campfire, always creating memories and sharing his love for the great outdoors.
In his younger years, Doyle was also a skilled race car driver, competing at Dixie Speedway in the 1970s. He achieved first place in Class C, racing under the guidance of the Bill Elliott family before NASCAR became a household name. His love for racing was just another example of his competitive spirit and his dedication to the things he loved.
A devout man of faith, Doyle was a dedicated member of his church and served as a deacon for many years. He had a deep connection to his faith, and his love for revivals, hymns, and spiritual music was evident in everything he did. He often shared his testimony with others and even wrote his own songs deeply resonating in his heart. He found great joy in singing, and his voice was one that filled the room with warmth and devotion.
Doyle's greatest love was his family. He cherished his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren (who did no wrong in his eyes), and his life was a testament to the love and care he gave to those around him. His faith, wisdom, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Doyle is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Linda L. Chester of Talking Rock; daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Greg Webb of Jasper; son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Delease Chester of Talking Rock; grandchildren, Blake Davis (Cindy), Ashley Evans (Casey), Sheree Harper (Kyle), Kristen Evans (Corey); great-grandchildren, Hailey McDowell (Colby), Hannah Fountain, Caden Evans, Cooper Evans, Alyssa Harper, Camden Evans; sisters, Alene Blankenship, Louise Satterfield, Brenda Elliott; brother, Ronnie Chester (Jennifer); and several other family members.
He was preceded in death by parents, Claude and Mamie Chester; sister, Betty Cornett; brother, Harold Chester; and four baby brothers, Robert, Donnie, Bennie, and Daryl.
