Mr. Payne was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Payne. He retired from the Georgia Marble Company. He was a member of Marble Hill Masonic Lodge where he has served as Past Master. Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Arnold & Gail Payne, Ray and Jan Payne; brother, Virgil Payne; sister, Evelyn Herrington. Four grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren also survive. Graveside Service will be held on Monday January 24, 2022 at 2 PM from the River Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Murphy, North Carolina. Arrangements are entrusted to the Staff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory.
